Restorative Justice

Our Restorative Justice work grew out of the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition (BCAC) and its decades-long commitment to improve the wellbeing of Bridgeport’s children and families through research, education, and advocacy.

Restorative Justice is a way of approaching conflict by focusing on repairing harm that was done rather than punishment. It brings affected parties together to talk about what occurred and how to move forward. Our Restorative Justice work is done in a variety of settings, including the area public schools, juvenile review boards and youth diversion teams, and the juvenile court systems.

Within schools in our region, we implement and train others in Restorative Practices (RP) which offers a constructive alternative to traditional punitive actions. Rather than punishing for misbehavior or minor legal infractions, RP aims to repair harm and relationships, build healthy communities, increase social capital, and decrease crime and anti-social behavior.

Our Programs

Youth Diversion Team

Formerly known as the Juvenile Review Board, the Youth Diversion Team (YDT) serves Bridgeport youth between the ages of 10 to 17 who may otherwise become involved with the juvenile court system.

Mediation Program

Sought after by front-line judicial staff and court diversion programs, our Mediation program helps youth (ages 10-17) take accountability, works with victims and resolves cases faster. This reduces a youth’s likelihood for deeper involvement in the juvenile court system.

Park City Career Pathways

Park City Career Pathways (PCCP) serves Bridgeport’s transition-aged youth (ages 17-21) through education and career development. PCCP is committed to fostering the next generation of leaders by providing them with the tools, resources, and support they need to succeed.
