What is a Recovery Friendly Workplace?
A Recovery Friendly Workplace (RFW) is an effort to reduce workplace stigma surrounding mental health issues and substance use disorder (SUD). Our RFW team helps local businesses earn RFW status by adopting policies and practices that encourage employees with behavioral health issues to ask for help without fear of losing their jobs.
This initiative was developed in partnership with Connecticut’s Departments of Labor, Public Health, and Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Did You Know?
- 1 in 5 U.S. adults live with mental illness, and 1 in 25 suffer from severe mental illness (CDC)
- 75% of adults with untreated substance use disorder are employed, and they miss 50% more workdays than their fellow employees (NIH)
- Untreated mental health issues cost U.S. businesses $105 billion a year (CDC), and substance use disorders cost $400 billion (NIH)
